Historia de Santo Domingo was published in 1992 as a paperback printed book. Although the book started as a college thesis project, it soon became evident to Jackie Arvelo that there was a need for a book like this for the younger people of the Dominican Republic. There are many history books by illustrious historians, past and present, but, most hardly have any illustrations or photos, making it very challenging for the younger readers who need a little inspiration in digesting thick volumes about Hispaniola's long and troubled history.
Dominican history is important in the sense that everything that happened in this island affected the course of the rest of the world in ways that aren't even apparent today. Things we take for granted happened because of the great experiment: colonization of America. The social, cultural and economic impact happened quickly and changed the world forever.
